Zerodha Accounts Can Now Be Connected to AI Assistants | AIM

Zerodha, one of India’s largest stock brokerage platforms, announced on Tuesday that users can connect their accounts to AI assistants like Claude.

The new Kite Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source framework built by the American AI startup Anthropic, makes this possible free of charge.

This protocol allows AI assistants to interact with external services and data. Thus, users can instantly get an AI-powered assistant that analyses the portfolio and can answer related questions.

Zerodha provided step-by-step instructions on how to set up the Kite MCP on Desktop, Visual Studio Code, and Linux. The company also offered various examples of using Kite MCP with their portfolio in Claude.

With this, users can request a detailed analysis of their portfolio’s performance over various timeframes, insights into sector exposure and diversification, and more. Additionally, users have the option to set alerts when their portfolio deviates from specific targets, check profit or gain percentages, view current holdings, check account information, and more.

Zerodha also said that it takes security seriously with Kite MCP. The AI assistant can only access data that the user explicitly authorises. The user’s credentials also do not pass through the AI assistant, and authentication always occurs externally through Kite. Moreover, all operations are read-only, and order placement isn’t available, except for GTT orders.

Last month, Razorpay, India’s fintech giant, launched a payment gateway with MCP. The new server allows users to connect to any AI system, facilitating the embedding of payment functionalities within chatbots, apps, and autonomous systems.

Razorpay founder Shashank Kumar explained that the MCP server enables quick payment processing, stating, “For example: Type ‘Send ₹500 payment link to Neha,’ and a payment link is generated, shared on WhatsApp, and completed, all within seconds.” This feature improves the speed and efficiency of transactions directly through AI interfaces.

Since its launch last year, Anthropic’s MCP protocol has become widely popular. It has been adopted by various startups and major tech companies like Google and Microsoft.
