OpenAI has launched a new integration that connects ChatGPT’s Deep Research feature with Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint, allowing users to analyse live data from their files. The update is now available in beta for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users, excluding those in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Enterprise access is expected to follow soon.
ChatGPT’s Deep Research feature, launched last year and accessible across all ChatGPT plans, conducts in-depth research using numerous sources to generate extensive reports.
Once connected, Deep Research can access selected folders in a user’s Microsoft OneDrive or SharePoint library. It then reads and cites content in real time to answer prompts like “Can you show me the Q1 financial summary for North America?” with detailed references to relevant documents. The service generates its search queries behind the scenes, sending them to Microsoft to get the best results.
To enable this, users must navigate to Deep Research in the ChatGPT interface, select SharePoint or OneDrive, and authorise access by logging in and choosing the document folders ChatGPT can read. Admins overseeing Microsoft 365 environments can approve the ChatGPT connector through a standard OAuth consent process.
OpenAI noted that Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint are third-party services governed by their own terms. Users must explicitly opt in, and document access remains limited to the folders chosen during setup.
The update is part of OpenAI’s continued effort to expand ChatGPT’s utility in integrating with various popular services. Last week, ChatGPT’s Deep Research also added integration with GitHub, allowing users to connect their repositories. This feature enables the deep research agent to access and retrieve relevant information from linked repositories in order to generate reports based on user queries.
